Engine Maintenance: Key Measures For Ensuring Long-Term Stable Operation

As the core of the power system, the quality of engine maintenance directly determines its operational reliability, service life, and fuel economy. Under complex and changing operating conditions, establishing a systematic and periodic maintenance system can effectively prevent malfunctions, reduce downtime losses, and maintain excellent power output and energy consumption levels.

Maintenance work begins with daily inspections. Before each day or shift, check the levels and quality of engine oil, coolant, fuel, and brake fluid to ensure there are no leaks or impurities; observe the intake and exhaust pipes and joints for integrity, and remove surface dust and oil to prevent foreign objects from being sucked in or heat from accumulating. After starting, pay attention to instrument readings, focusing on oil pressure, water temperature, engine speed, and exhaust gas color. If any abnormalities are found, promptly investigate the cause to avoid operating with malfunctions.

Periodic maintenance is of paramount importance. Set oil change intervals according to manufacturer specifications or actual operating conditions, and promptly replace engine oil and filters to prevent sludge and metal particles from damaging friction surfaces. Regularly clean or replace the air filter to ensure intake air cleanliness and reduce cylinder wear and incomplete combustion risks. For the fuel system, replace the fuel filter and drain the water separator according to the operating environment. Check the spray pattern and sealing of fuel injectors or carburetors at specified intervals to maintain fuel atomization quality. For the cooling system, check the performance of the water pump, thermostat, and radiator, and top up or replace antifreeze as needed to prevent corrosion and scale buildup from affecting cooling efficiency.

Maintenance of moving parts is crucial. Regularly check belt tension and surface cracks, and replace worn parts promptly to prevent breakage and chain reactions. Spark plugs, valve clearance, and timing systems should be periodically checked and adjusted to ensure accurate ignition and valve train distribution, improving combustion efficiency and reducing emissions. For turbocharged engines, also check the intake and exhaust bypass valves, intercooler sealing, and piping connections to prevent pressure loss and abnormal heat load.

When an engine is to be out of service or stored for an extended period, its exterior should be thoroughly cleaned, the fuel drained or corrosion inhibitor added, the negative terminal of the battery disconnected, and a system check and test run performed before restarting to confirm that all parameters have returned to normal. All maintenance operations must be performed by trained professionals, strictly following safety procedures. When handling electrical or high-temperature components, power must be disconnected and the components allowed to cool down before proceeding.

Proper maintenance not only extends the engine's peak performance but also plays a long-term role in energy conservation, emission reduction, and safe production. Combining daily inspections, periodic maintenance, and condition monitoring to form a closed-loop management system provides a solid guarantee for the continuous and efficient operation of all types of equipment.
