WP Gearbox

WP Gearbox

The WP reducer is a general-purpose worm gear reducer whose core structure consists of a worm, a worm wheel, and a housing. It is often used as an independent transmission unit between a prime mover and a driven machine. Due to its smooth transmission, large reduction ratio, and good self-locking properties, it is widely used in many industries.

Features

  • Smooth transmission: Low vibration, impact, and noise.
  • High reduction ratio: A large transmission ratio can be achieved with a single stage, resulting in a compact structure.
  • Self-locking: Most models have good self-locking properties, eliminating the need for braking devices.
  • High versatility: The housing is available in various mounting types, including basic and universal models, allowing for flexible input and output shaft directions.

Applications

Suitable for speed reduction transmission in various mechanical equipment in industries such as plastics, metallurgy, beverages, mining, hoisting and transportation, chemical engineering, and construction. Also applicable in textile printing and dyeing, building materials machinery, food packaging, petrochemicals, stage machinery, and new energy.

FAQ

Q1: What lubricant is recommended for WP gear reducers? What is the oil change interval?

A: For normal operating conditions, 220# gear oil is sufficient. For heavy-load and frequent start-up scenarios, a lubricant additive containing seal conditioner can be used. Regarding oil changes, the first oil change is required after 500 hours of operation for a new machine, followed by changes every 3000 hours or every six months. If the oil shows signs of emulsification or impurities, it must be replaced immediately.

Q2: Are there any special precautions for vertically installing a WP speed reducer?

A: Vertical installation is prone to lubrication problems due to lubrication loss. It is recommended to add more lubricating oil than for horizontal installation, and to avoid long-term vertical installation. Additionally, the support structure should be reinforced to prevent machine vibration.

Q3: What could be causing rapid worm gear wear?

A: Normally, worm gears wear slowly. If wear accelerates, it's likely due to one of these reasons: 1) Improper selection, causing the reducer to operate under overload; 2) Harsh operating environment, with dust, humidity, and other factors exacerbating wear.

Q4: What are the common causes and solutions for bearing rust and damage?

A: The main cause is that when the gearbox is running and stopped, the gear oil undergoes alternating hot and cold cycles, producing condensation that emulsifies the oil and corrodes the bearing. The solution is to replace the rusted bearing and the emulsified lubricating oil. Avoid striking the bearing during assembly. Before long-term storage, add rust-preventive grease. During operation, regularly check the oil condition to prevent moisture buildup.

Q5: What checks should be performed before using a gearbox after long-term storage?

A: For gearboxes stored for more than 3-6 months, first check the oil seals. If the oil seals are not immersed in lubricating oil, they must be replaced immediately. Second, check the housing for any dents or cracks, and ensure the oil holes are clear. Before installation, check that the radial runout of the input shaft is ≤0.05mm and that the flatness of the output flange meets the standards. Finally, during trial operation, observe whether the operation is stable and whether there are any oil leaks.
