Pivot Gearbox
What is a Pivot Gearbox?
The pivot gearbox (or center pivot gearbox) is the core driving transmission component for center pivot sprinkler systems, circular pivot irrigation systems, and translational sprinkler equipment. As a dedicated worm gearbox for farmland sprinkler irrigation equipment, it converts the high speed of the motor into low-speed, high-torque power, driving the sprinkler tower to move smoothly in a circular path. This product features a pure gearbox structure (excluding the motor), is waterproof and dustproof, mechanically self-locking, wind and sand-resistant, and withstands high and low temperatures. It is the most frequently replaced pivot drive component in large-scale farms worldwide and is fully compatible with imported sprinkler equipment from Valmont, Lindsay, Reinke, Valley, and other manufacturers.

- High-precision gear design eliminates starting slippage and loss of rotation.
The pivot gearbox employs precision grinding technology, resulting in regular tooth profiles and uniform meshing clearance, completely resolving issues such as slippage, loss of rotation, and tower stalling common in ordinary gearboxes. The equipment starts smoothly with minimal travel pulse error, ensuring a constant and uniform circumferential speed for the central pivot unit, effectively preventing localized missed or over-irrigation issues, and making it suitable for high-precision, standardized farmland irrigation operations.
- The negative pressure blocking sealing system eliminates water and sand ingress at the source.
Unlike ordinary single-layer oil seal structures, this pivot gearbox uses a combined sealing system of "multi-stage oil seal + dustproof cover + pressure balancing breather valve". It automatically balances the internal and external air pressure of the gearbox when there are changes in temperature between day and night, preventing the intake of rainwater, fog, and fine sand from the field due to negative pressure. This completely solves the common problems in the industry such as water ingress and rust, oil emulsification, and sand and dust wear on the shaft, making it suitable for harsh open-field environments in all weather conditions.
- Zero-modification compatibility reduces equipment modification costs.
Strictly adhering to internationally recognized pivot gearbox installation standards, the flange hole positions, output shaft diameter, and mounting center height are fully compatible with imported models such as Valmont, Lindsay, and Valley. Universally compatible with both new and old equipment, repairing or replacing older equipment requires no frame grinding, no re-drilling, and no adjustment of the transmission structure; it can be directly assembled in its original position, significantly shortening equipment downtime and reducing farm operation and maintenance costs.

FAQ
Q1: Can the self-locking function of the pivot gearbox completely replace the brakes?
A1: No. The worm gear has a built-in mechanical self-locking mechanism, which can resist normal wind force and slight external force drift, providing auxiliary protection. However, under extreme wind conditions, when the equipment is coasting unloaded, or when manually dragged, the self-locking capability is limited and cannot completely replace the original braking system. It is recommended to use the equipment brakes for double protection after stopping the machine.
Q2: What is the normal operating temperature range for a pivot gearbox?
A2: A surface temperature of 40℃–65℃ during continuous field operation is considered normal, which is due to the normal frictional heating of the gear oil. If the temperature rises suddenly, becomes very hot to the touch, accompanied by abnormal noises or smoke, it indicates insufficient oil, gear wear, or overload jamming. Immediate shutdown and repair are necessary to prevent damage to the gearbox and gear failure.
Q3: Are the gearboxes interchangeable between different brands of center-pivot sprinkler systems?
A3: Generally, yes. Industry-standard center-pivot gearboxes adhere to a unified international standard. Valmont, Lindsay, Valley, and various domestic models can be seamlessly interchanged in situ, provided the speed ratio, shaft diameter, and flange are identical. No modifications to the frame structure are required, making them compatible with all major new and old sprinkler equipment brands.
