Single Phase Electric Motor
What is a Single Phase Electric Motor?
The Single Phase Electric Motor, dual-capacitor asynchronous induction motors designed specifically for applications requiring high starting torque under single-phase power supply conditions. Manufactured in compliance with GB/T755 and IEC60034 standards, these motors feature a die-cast aluminum alloy housing, a dual-capacitor configuration (start and run capacitors), and a built-in centrifugal switch. By combining high starting torque with stable, continuous operation, the ML series bridges the market gap between standard aluminum-housed MY motors (which lack sufficient starting capability) and cast-iron YL models (which are excessively heavy).
Unlike MY series motors-which are suited only for light-load continuous operation-ML series motors utilize a start capacitor to generate immense torque the moment power is applied. Once the rotor reaches the rated speed, the centrifugal switch automatically disconnects the start capacitor, leaving only the run capacitor engaged to maintain stable operation. Combining a lightweight design with excellent load-starting capabilities, the ML series is ideal for light industry, agriculture, and small-scale construction equipment where three-phase power is unavailable or installation space is limited, yet the machinery must overcome significant static resistance upon startup.

Features
1. Dual-capacitor design with robust heavy-load starting capability
Utilizes a combination of independent starting and running capacitors. Upon startup, both capacitors work in tandem to boost starting torque, easily overcoming static mechanical friction; once the target speed is reached, a centrifugal switch disconnects the starting capacitor, allowing the motor to operate smoothly and continuously using the running capacitor. This design resolves the issue of weak starting performance common in capacitor-run motors while preventing the overheating problems associated with single-capacitor motors during prolonged operation, making it ideal for heavy-load, intermittent start-stop applications.
2. Die-cast aluminum housing: reduced weight and optimized heat dissipation
The high-pressure die-cast aluminum alloy housing is approximately 25% lighter than that of traditional cast-iron YL motors, facilitating assembly and equipment handling. Featuring an integrated cooling fin structure, the housing offers superior thermal conductivity compared to cast iron, enabling rapid dissipation of heat generated by the windings and effectively limiting temperature rise. The housing is finished with an electrostatic powder coating that provides rust resistance, ensuring a longer service life in environments such as humid or dusty workshops and simple outdoor settings.
3. Low vibration, low noise, and excellent operational stability
The stator features high-purity, all-copper windings paired with low-loss cold-rolled silicon steel laminations, while the rotor undergoes dual-stage dynamic balancing and utilizes high-precision sealed ball bearings. The motor operates with minimal oscillation and does not transmit vibration to the mounting frame, thereby reducing noise in the associated equipment; it is ideally suited for installation in integrated machinery systems where vibration control is required.

FAQ
Q: How should one choose between the ML (aluminum housing) and YL (cast iron housing) dual-capacitor motors?
A: Both utilize a dual-capacitor design and offer similar starting torque. The ML series features an aluminum housing that is lighter and dissipates heat more efficiently, making it ideal for applications with weight restrictions or limited installation space. In contrast, the YL series features a cast iron housing that offers superior rigidity and impact resistance, making it suitable for harsh outdoor environments or conditions involving prolonged, intense vibration. Choose the ML model if lightweight design is the priority; opt for the YL cast iron model if the operating environment involves heavy dust or extreme shock and vibration.
Q: Can the speed of ML single-phase dual-capacitor motors be adjusted? What are the limitations?
A: It is not recommended to use standard variable frequency drives (VFDs) to adjust the speed of the standard version. The dual-capacitor design relies on a centrifugal switch, and the output waveform of a VFD can easily cause the capacitors to overheat and fail. If speed control is required for a project, please consult us in advance to arrange a custom version with specialized windings-eliminating the starting capacitor and centrifugal switch-and provide details on the load and speed range so our engineers can assess feasibility.
Q: How do the torque characteristics of a custom 60Hz ML motor compare to the 50Hz version?
A: For the same number of poles, a 60Hz motor has a higher synchronous speed; consequently, at the same power rating, its rated output torque is slightly lower than that of the 50Hz version. When purchasing a 60Hz model, it is essential to verify the equipment's starting resistance. If necessary, select a motor with the next higher power rating to compensate for the reduced torque and prevent startup difficulties.
