Brushed DC motor is a type of DC motor that uses mechanical contact between brushes and a commutator to achieve current commutation. Its core structure consists of four main components: the stator (field winding/permanent magnet), rotor (armature winding), brushes, and commutator. It has a simple structure, low manufacturing cost, high starting torque, and direct control method. It can achieve speed control through voltage adjustment without the need for additional drive circuitry, making it one of the earliest and most widely used types of DC motors.
- Simple structure and low cost: It requires no position sensors or complex drive circuits. The core components are only the stator, rotor, brushes, and commutator. The manufacturing process is mature, and the manufacturing cost is far lower than that of brushless DC motors. Maintenance and replacement are convenient.
- High starting torque: The armature current is controllable during startup, allowing for a starting torque significantly greater than the rated torque (usually 1.5-4 times the rated torque). This makes it suitable for directly starting heavy-duty equipment (such as cranes and elevators) without the need for additional starting devices, resulting in a simple startup process.
- Direct control method: Torque and speed have a linear relationship with armature current and voltage. The control logic is clear, and precise torque and speed control can be achieved through simple voltage/current adjustment, making it suitable for manual adjustment or simple electronic control systems.
